Working with Headstart South Tees
2019 saw More Than A Run join Headstart at their annual conference at Teesside University which was attended by 541 Headstarters. The conference was a day of celebration for the HeadStarters for the work undertaken that academic year, to promote inter-school relationships, peer education and team work. It was also another opportunity to improve overall mental health awareness and understanding for staff and students alike. More Than A Run’s Pamela Highfield provided a workshop which promoted the benefits of physical activity and the links between physical health and mental health. The workshop was part information and part practical as Pamela took the HeadStarters through 15 minutes of physical activity so that the groups could see the short-term effects of exercise.
More Than A Run joined Headstart again later in the year for their #FeelGoodFestival which was held at MyPlace. An evening of live music by Middlesbrough’s young people, a Wellbeing market and more. A truly inspirational evening watching the children and young people performing both songs and dance routines.
Due to Covid restrictions this year the conference sadly didn’t go ahead but that didn’t stop Headstart continuing their fabulous work. More Than A Run created a video with the help of some local children to promote the benefits of being outdoors and being active on mental health.
